Install media features

Question

How do I install the Media Feature Pack?

Answer

If Windows Media Player (Legacy) was removed during setup or debloating, some apps can report missing Media Features. It can be reinstalled reasonably easily. Scroll to see solutions.

Alternatively, you might be on an N edition of Windows. We recommend avoiding N editions when possible; debloating already covers most of the removal. You can check in winver.exe.

Reinstalling the Media Pack

  1. Open Settings, and navigate from SystemOptional featuresView features (or Add an optional feature).

    Open Optional features

  2. Search for Windows Media and check Windows Media Player Legacy (App).

    • If you're on an N edition of Windows, search for Media Feature Pack instead.
  3. Click Next, then Add.

  4. Wait for it to install.
