Bootable USB
You need a USB flash drive (8 GB or larger) and a verified Windows ISO. If you have not downloaded one yet, start with Download & verify ISO.
WARNING
Both tools below erase everything on the USB drive you select. Back up any files you need before continuing.
Ventoy installs a small boot area on the stick once. After that, you copy ISO files like normal files without re-flashing when you switch images.
1. Install Ventoy on the USB
- Download the latest Ventoy release and extract the archive.
- Open Ventoy2Disk from the extracted folder.
- Select your USB drive and click Install.
- This destroys all data on that drive.
- When Ventoy finishes, copy your Windows ISO into the USB volume labeled Ventoy using File Explorer.
2. Boot from the Ventoy USB
- Disconnect Ethernet and stay off Wi-Fi until setup tells you to connect again.
- Restart your PC, open the firmware boot menu, and select the Ventoy USB. See BIOS / boot order if you are unsure how to reach that menu.
- In the Ventoy menu, select the Windows ISO, press Enter, choose Boot in normal mode, and press Enter again.
Secure Boot and Ventoy
When Secure Boot is on, the first time you boot the Ventoy USB you may see a blue Security Violation screen (e.g. Verification failed: (0x1A) Security Violation). That is a one-time UEFI enrollment step.
For enrollment steps, animations, the local video walkthrough, and firmware edge cases, see Ventoy: "Security Violation" with Secure Boot.
Next step
Open your firmware settings and choose the USB as the boot device. Continue with BIOS / boot order.
Once the installer loads, click Next, then Install now. If the option appears, choose Previous version of setup (bottom-left). The classic UI is easier for partitioning.
